* Company Profile *

In May of 1948, Leland H. Chin & partner James W. Lee, founded The Great China Trading Company in the Governor Building of downtown Portland, Oregon.   What began as a small import/export business would soon thrive to become one of Oregon's largest Asian specialty food distribution companies.

Starting with approximately $4000 worth of inventory, ranging from brushes, brooms, as well as carpets imported from the Orient, the business net over $200,000 worth of sales during its first year of business.  By the early 1950's Leland Chin had built a new location, in what was to become known as the Chin Building on the east side.  Locating on the corner of 42nd and NE Broadway, Leland expanded his business opportunities to include Portland's first Chinese take-out restaurant named Chin's Kitchen.

The Great China Trading Company name was changed in 1962, when the company was incorporated under the new name of Chin's Import Export Co., Inc..   Three generations later, Chin's has grown to become a leader in the Asian specialty food distribution business.  Our company distributes its products only at the wholesale level, catering to the restaurant industry, national fast food restaurant chains, industrial manufacturing, re-distribution,  as well as government food procurement.  Distribution of our products can be found throughout the Pacific Northwest, as well as Alaska.

In November of 2007, the Company relocated its office and warehouse complex to the Port of Portland's Rivergate  Industrial Park.  Currently the Company has warehousing facilities that encompass 20,000 square feet of dry, frozen, as well as refrigerated space.
